Grubel Wine Chiller
This post is not about wine chiller! It's about photography.
Last 2 weeks, I shoot for a very close friend of mine. He wanted some photos to be submitted for magazine advertorial. He is in the business of wine chiller. And his idea was to promote it as part of lifestyle. So, the main idea he has in mind was to project ambience and complement it with wine chiller.
Let's look at the first photo.

The main idea is to have photo that showing ambience and lifestyle. There are few challenges.
Firstly, the lounge space is limited (read small) to move around. Hence, very limited angle.
Second, the lighting was pub-like which is very dim. To our naked eye, it is very pleasing and cosy. But to camera, it is different story altogether.
There are quite a number of shots taken which showing the nice dim environment. It looks good to show ambience but it drowned the chiller in shadows. After few comparisons, overall bright photo was preferred.
The photo itself looks good. However, from business perspective, it's not good because the main product is the chiller and it was thrown out at a corner. Rearranging the layout is out of the question.
So when I put myself inside his shoe, what else can I do?
I add close-up shots of the chiller, intentionally to create side montage to complement this photo.

Despite all these photos, something is still missing. It seems like lacking life!
One way to bring life to it is by adding human element. Therefore, insiders gotta be the model!

With that, my friend is happy with the result. As long as they are happy, I'll be happy too!
