Zamrud's Basic Portraiture Workshop

By kar - Posted on 26 October 2008

Today I am honored to attend Master Zamrud's Basic Portraiture Workshop in his studio in Bangi. Me, being a "jakun" in portrait observe tentatively as Master Zamrud explained about shadow and lighting and how one making use of light, positioning and perspective.

You may read more about him at his blog, zamrudphotography, a picture worth a thousand words... at http://zamrudphotography.blogspot.com/

I salute him being able to accept me as his student and keep up to my nuisance throughout the whole day. I know I am not an easy student!

Maria, the gorgeous model was absolutely sporting in posing any style that the participants asked her to do. If I were to shoot model like her, portraiture is a bliss and definitely a distress activity.

I couldn't thank enough to both of them that has opened up my eyes and reinforced my learning through experience in photography world.

I may not be the best portrait photographer, but it has make me learnt so much about myself through the subject and environments.

What I've learnt and been reinforced through this workshop:-

  • I must appreciate or at least learn to appreciate the subject
  • I must strive the bring out the best of the subject
  • I must learn to be passionate about the subject in order to uncover it through my photos
  • I must treat the subject with respect and part of environment, which is part of me
  • I must be able to be fully aware of my emotion and communicate it through my photos
  • I must be fully aware and know my abilities, boundaries and able to push my comfort zone to a bigger limitations.

New things that I've learnt today from Master Zamrud:-

  • Types of basic studio lighting
  • Light and shadow
  • Light meter
  • Basic interaction with model
  • Angles and perspectives
  • Basic Do and Don't
  • Basic Portraiture Post Processing

Looking forward to attend another workshop in coming future!

Alamak.........it's just funny when I'm so quite used to looking/shooting other ppls portraiture....and now I'm looking one of myself. Hahahahaha.....but somehow u know when to capture the moment. Actually in honesty I'm the one truely honored to have finally meet u in person....coz I know that we have something in common. Guess I was not wrong.

And u have the tenacity of capturing the essence of Maria......I like the side profile of her that u took...nice.

Wish one day we can be doing nature together. Fun to be with u....take care of ur gums.
